Weekend Reading 1.12.20

On Friday, my friend asked me to entertain her two year old daughter while she taught a fitness class. I had forgotten just how slow life moves when you’re caring for a toddler. Everything happens at a delayed pace, putting on shoes, walking down the street, and conversation. I took her to the market and we walked down each aisle. It was sweet to relive life in the slow lane for a small part of my day. I forgot how the world seen through the eyes of a small child is one filled with wonder. I love when they tell you all about what they see and how the world works from their perspective. Our time together was a reminder that slowing down and taking the time to notice the simple things brings much joy.

I love hanging out with my teens too. They invite all their friends over and talk about what’s happening in their world. I feel so fortunate to have such open communication with my teens and their friends. People will warn you when your babies are little by saying “oh just wait until they’re teenagers” and I have to say it’s been really great. I’ll admit the junior high/puberty season was rough, but I’m really enjoying this time watching them express themselves, work through challenges, and become young adults. Last night, my daughter and four of her friends hung out at my studio playing games and eating Chinese food while I worked late on my new business. Teenagers are hilarious. I loved listening to the hum of their conversation in the background, their music, their jokes and memes. It was a new memory to treasure, one made special in knowing in just a few years they will be gone.
