My work centres around atmospheric landscapes that are both real and imagined. Constructed from old holiday snaps, frozen cinematic frames, observation and fragments of memory hazily pieced together. I am interested in the fuzzy area between what is real and what is not – between waking and sleeping. I live by the sea in the south of the UK and water seeps into my work…. I am drawn to its distorted reflections and see it as a portal to other worlds and unknown depths – a symbol of the unconscious.
Bio:
Eleanor Taylor is an artist and illustrator who lives and works in Hastings, UK.
She works on many different commissions from her studio close to the sea – illustrating books for Templar and Laurence King, book covers for Random House and Penguin and working on editorial illustrations for clients like the New York Times, Guardian and New Yorker. Alongside commissions, she works on her own practice of painting and drawing. She graduated with an MA in Communication Art and Design from the Royal College of Art in 2011 and a BA in Illustration from Norwich College of Art in 2008. In 2012 she was shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize and in 2015 won The Prize for Illustration. In 2019 she was accepted onto the Varda Artists Residency and spent two months in California living on a boat and making work.
